"Otto with Tuba" 1970 (Only 1 left)

$100.00

The estate of Robert Edward Weaver (REW) is proud to offer for the first time, this limited edition, full-color, Giclee (jee-clay) reproduction of Otto and Tuba. The original work, was realized in oil paint as part of a series of portraits of the greatest clowns of the circus. Shown at the 38th Indiana Artists Club exhibition and awarded the Mrs. Donald M. Mattison Award. (click on thumbnail to see the full image)

The subject of this portrait is the great German-born-performer Otto Griebling. Griebling originally began circus life as an equestrian bareback rider, but due to an accident, Griebling gave up riding to enter the world of the circus clown. Griebling became one of the most beloved tramp clowns, first in 1932 with the Hagenbeck-Wallace Circus, and later the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus beginning in 1951.

This Giclee print captures the color and light of the circus arena under the big top that REW was famous for as one of the foremost illustrators of the circus. Each print comes with a certificate of authenticity, and a facsimile of the artist’s estate stamp. Each print is produced one at a time to maintain the quality of color. The image of Griebling measures 20 inches in height and 9.5 inches in width, with a 1.5 inch border for framing purposes. The print is shipped to you rolled in a tube via USPS, insured, priority mail. All proceeds from sales go to maintaining the works of REW. Future prints of other major works by the artist are planned.
